V8.1 (April 2026) makes 2K HD the default, roughly 3× faster and cheaper, and restores image prompts. Midjourney remains the benchmark for sheer image quality and artistry, especially for concept design, illustration and marketing visuals. Newer models keep improving consistency and control, and the web app means you're no longer stuck inside Discord.
Weak spots: text rendering is still shaky, precise compositional control trails some rivals, there's no free tier, and the learning curve is steep. But if you want the best-looking output rather than pixel-level control, Midjourney is still the first choice.
