GPT-6 Astra launched in September 2026: OpenAI's API documentation now lists pricing (input $10, output $50 per million tokens) and a nominal context window of about 1.05M, and Amazon Bedrock confirmed the model in its official Sep 14, 2026 weekly update. It is also the first model to reach the Critical cybersecurity capability threshold under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework — per the Path to Astra post, the ability to autonomously find unknown vulnerabilities and develop exploits is initially limited to a small set of testers, advanced cyber features are not in the default scope, and access widens later for defensive use through the Daybreak Blue program. Enterprise capabilities such as Managed Agents shipped alongside the launch.

Two caveats worth planning for: Astra is priced noticeably above the GPT-5.6 lineup, so everyday writing and light tasks are better value on the Terra / Luna tiers; and OpenAI's docs also list GPT-5.5 as retiring on October 14, 2026, so teams pinned to older model IDs should schedule the migration in advance.
