Our review

The K3 flagship (July 2026, 2.8T params) is one of the world's largest open-source models, with native vision and a 1M context. Built by Moonshot AI, Kimi is known for ultra-long context — it can swallow a large pile of documents and stay coherent, with excellent long-document understanding and Chinese, and it's free and easy to use.

English and creative writing are average and the API has limits; but if your core need is feeding in a stack of long material and then interrogating it, Kimi's long-context experience leads among Chinese assistants.
